The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET). The test is required to regulate the eligibility for the posts of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor both in Indian universities and in colleges.

CBSE will conduct the UGC-NET 2017 in 83 subjects in 88 cities across the country.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

The candidate should have passed a Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) from a UGC recognised university in any of the 100 subjects mentioned on the official website of CBSE UGC NET.

Students belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ PwD category are required to have at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree are eligible for the test.

Those candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination or waiting for the results can also apply. However, they are required to complete their PG within two years from the date of NET result.

The PhD degree holders who have completed their Master’s degree by September 19, 1991, will be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

Age

Junior Research Fellowship
Candidate should not be more than 28 years of age as on July 1, 2016. There is a relaxation of 5 years for women applicants and the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD category.

Assistant Professor
There is no upper age limit for the candidates applying for the post of assistant professor.

Application Details

Candidates applying for CBSE UGC 2017 exam are required to visit the official website of the CBSE NET.

Fill up all the required information in the online application form, upload the scanned copy of photograph and signature.

After fillip up all the details, make a payment of examination fee through credit/debit card or through e-challan.

Part I will have 60 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. This part comprises questions on reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness. 

Part II and Part III will have 50 and 75 objective type questions respectively, which will be based on the subject selected by the student.
