Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) or Civil Services Preliminary Examination to recruit personnel in the elite Government Services of India such as IAS, IFS, IPS etc.

Civil Services Examination and Civil Services Mains Examination is an essential process for recruitment which is followed by an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be a citizen of India to be eligible to apply for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) & Indian Police Service (IPS).

The applicant should be minimum 21 years of age to apply for the UPSC Exams and the maximum age limit is 29 years.

The candidates must have a degree in any discipline from any of the recognised universities.

The candidate can make payment of Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty five) only in any branch of SBI Bank by cash.

Applicants can also make payment by using net banking of the SBI Visa/ Master Credit or Debit Card.

Counselling/Interview

Candidates qualified in the written examination will be called for the interview based on their scores.

•   Current Affairs: Events of national and international importance
•   History of India and Indian National Movement
•   Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic geography of India and the World.
•   Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
•   Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
•   General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change (no subject specialisation required)
•   General Science

CSAT General Ability Test Paper 2

•   Comprehension
•   Interpersonal skills including communication skills
•   Logical reasoning and analytical ability
•   Decision-making and problem-solving
•   General mental ability
•   Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
•   English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).
•   Questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level. (will be tested through passages from English language only without providing Hindi translation)
