CAT 2017 - Common Admission Test 2017 will be conducted by one of the Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs). According to the speculations doing round, it is expected that IIM Calcutta will be conducting the exam this year. CAT is a national level management entrance exam held every year across major cities of the country. On the basis of CAT score and percentile, admissions are granted to the Post-Graduate and Fellow Programmes in Management courses of several management institutes in India including the IIMs. As of today, well over 100 B-Schools in India accept the CAT score.

CAT 2017 will be conducted in online mode. A total of 100 MCQ and non-MCQs will be asked in it from 4 sections namely, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VA-RC), Quantitative Ability (QA) and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI-LR). CAT is considered to be the toughest yet most coveted entrance test of the nation. 

Last year, CAT was conducted by Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) on December 4, 2016. More than 2.32 lakh candidates registered for this exam and out of it, around 1.98 lakh actually appeared. 

The notification for CAT 2017 will be released in last week of July 2017, which will be followed by availability of CAT application form in first week of Auguust 2017.

Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must be a graduate, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently Abled (DA) category).

The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree.

In the absence of any percentage conversion scheme, candidate’s CGPA will be divided by maximum possible CGPA and be multiplying the result with 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

Detailed Information about CAT 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Application Details

CAT application form 2017 must be filled and submitted in one sitting having a duration of 30 minutes. Though, you can revisit CAT 2017 online registration portal several times but the login session expires in half an hour.

Follow the steps given below to access and fill the application form of CAT 2017 - 

1. Candidates can apply to CAT 2017 by logging on to the official CAT 2017 website i.e. www.iimcat.ac.in. The application window will be opening in first week of August 2017.

2. They will have to fill a CAT registration form 2017, thereby creating a profile.

4. Log in with system generated User ID and Password. On creating a profile, your User ID will be sent by email and the Password shall be sent to the registered mobile number.

5. Using the login credentials, login as existing user to access the CAT 2017 application form.

6. Fill valid details in the application form correctly. The details requred to be filled are personal, educational, course to be pursued, exam cities, work experience, list of IIMs where you wish to apply and more. Verify the filled details and make changes if required.

7. Lastly, pay the requisite application fee using the available online payment gateways.

EXAMINATION FEES

Last year, the CAT application fee was Rs. 1700/- for General NC-OBC category candidates and Rs. 850/- for SC/ST/PH category. The amount stated included application screening and Entrance Test Fee. Additional charges were applicable on the final amount.

CAT 2016 Analysis

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016 held on Sunday (Dec 4) was a moderate – difficulty level of examination filled with few surprises. HTCampus caught up with some test takers freshly after the examination to get the CAT paper analysis 2016. 

 

Paper-Wise Analysis

  • Quantitative Aptitude - Moderate

  • Verbal and Reading Comprehension - Easy

  • Data-Interpretation and Logical Reasoning - Very Difficult

Not such major changes were noticed in CAT 2016 paper. The marking scheme and the number of questions were pretty much the same and according to the expectation. A single change was noticed in the number of options in each MCQ question, it was increased from four to five.

List of the candidates who qualify CAT 2017 result will be shortlisted for the next level of selection will be made available on the individual IIM websites. Each IIM will send out call letters to the shortlisted candidates directly. The admission criteria for different IIMs are different. Candidates should visit the official websites of IIMs for other updates.

Counselling procedure for other institutes accepting CAT 2017 score is different for each. Hence, candidates are requested to visit the official website of the college they are applying to.

Reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, syllogisms, analogies, antonyms, and synonyms, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, idioms, etc.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning:

Data interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), venn diagram, clocks, calendars, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption, premise, conclusion, linear and matrix arrangement, etc.

Quantitative Ability:

Number systems, geometry, trigonometry, probability, permutation combination, algebra, mensuration, time and work, averages, percentages, profit and loss, quadratic and linear equations, etc.
